The French language? It’s the future!

Listen carefully to these three words: the French language. What comes to mind when you hear them? What images do they evoke? Do you think of Molière, Balzac or Proust? Perhaps you are remembering Édith Piaf or Jacques Brel?
Of course! But the French language is also synonymous with the world. Spoken in 29 countries, it enables 274 million French speakers to communicate with one another – it is the fifth most widely spoken language on the planet and the second most common mother tongue in the European Union! And what’s more, the French language is the future! Did you know that 60% of French speakers are under 30?

In Switzerland, it is spoken by 1.8 million people. It is an official language to which the Swiss are very attached. Speaking French in Switzerland – and in particular in Basel, a city bordering France – is a major asset, or even compulsory, for working in the academic and institutional spheres and in all national and international companies.

Whether it's to go on holiday to Senegal, to move to Quebec or to find love in Lausanne, you will always have a good reason to learn French. There are as many reasons as there are learners.

What if you had found your compelling reason, but didn't know how to get started? Learning French is a wonderful challenge! To rise to it, you will need to establish good habits, just like with sport, and practise regularly and frequently. In this great adventure, it is better to be guided and monitored by professionals: make your life easier, for example, by taking a private lesson or joining a small group. Very quickly, you will make progress and feel yourself moving forward. It is very rewarding!
