SVEB Certificate as Trainer

The SVEB certificate for trainers – conducting learning events is a nationally recognised basic qualification for course leaders in Switzerland. It is the ideal starting point for acquiring didactic and methodological skills in adult education.

Course description

The SVEB certificate: Trainer – Conducting Learning Events is a course based on the new AdA modular system 2023.
It provides you with a solid foundation for working in adult education. During the course, you will develop the skills needed to prepare, conduct and evaluate courses for adults based on specified concepts.

The focus of the course is on putting teaching and learning methods into practice. Other key areas include practice, sharing experiences with colleagues and creatively designing learning situations in groups.

• Dealing with problems
• Role of the course leader
• Review and evaluate
• The difficult art of simplification
• Learning types and learning biographies

In the SVEB course, you build on the resources you bring with you. This gives you the opportunity to set individual priorities when acquiring basic knowledge.

This allows you to develop and deepen your skills and abilities as a course instructor, both in face-to-face teaching and in digitally supported learning settings.

Participation requirements

This SVEB course is designed for individuals who wish to pursue a career in adult education. Participants should meet the following requirements:

• Language skills at least level C1

• Professional competence in one's own field

• 2 years of teaching experience in adult education, at least 150 hours, of which a maximum of one third may be one-to-one tuition

or the willingness to gain at least 150 hours of course leadership experience – spread over two years

It is recommended that course sequences from your own teaching practice be incorporated into the SVEB course as much as possible.

Completion

• SVEB certificate as trainer – conducting learning events

• Those who cannot demonstrate sufficient practical experience at the time of course completion will initially receive a module confirmation. Once sufficient teaching experience has been gained (within two years), the certificate can be obtained from the provider organisation.

Course scope and certification requirements

• A total of 255 hours of learning time (+ 150 hours of practical experience)

• 90 hours of net attendance time – 60 hours of the course take place as classroom teaching and 30 hours online – 80% attendance is required to pass the module.

• Active participation and 165 hours of self-study, with instruction/support from the lecturer offered for half of the hours.

• Maintaining a skills portfolio to demonstrate reflection on the personal learning process.

• Proof of competence assessed as ‘pass’ by the module lecturer(s).

• Learning process models and detailed didactic planning of learning units

• Competencies and learning objectives, goal setting

• Selection of learning content

• Diversity of methods and social forms in adult education

• Methods and forms of learning in different learning phases and settings

• Cooperative learning methods, supervision of group assignments

• Use of analog and technology-based media and learning materials

• Designing learning tasks and assignments, providing instructions for learning activities

• Perception of the learning situation, adaptive implementation of detailed planning

• Methods for securing learning outcomes, reviewing objectives, and evaluating learning sequences

• Concept of humanity and basic andragogical attitudes

• Fundamentals of communication in learning situations

• Diversity in relation to group development

• Aspects of a learning-friendly environment, agreeing on and adhering to communication rules

• Goal- and participant-oriented communication, basics of moderation

• Dealing with disruptions and conflicts in learning groups

• Understanding of learning, attitudes, and roles as course instructors
