General Terms and Conditions for SVEB courses at SLA Basel

(valid from 1 July 2023)

1. Registration

Registration must be made in writing or electronically. By signing the written registration form or submitting the electronic registration form, the participant accepts the General Terms and Conditions of SLA Basel.

After registering for the course, a course schedule and invoice will be sent out no later than two weeks before the course begins. This obligates the participant to pay the course fee.

2. Terms of payment

The payment date stated on the invoice is binding. Upon request, the course fee can be paid in instalments. In the case of instalment payments, the first instalment is due at the start of the course. The remaining instalments are to be paid monthly in accordance with the payment schedule. In the event of late payment, we reserve the right to charge CHF 20 for the second and third payment reminders.

3. Cancellation and termination after the course has started

3.1. Cancellation of the course must be made in writing. Verbal cancellations will not be accepted.

Failure to pay the invoice or failure to attend the course does not constitute cancellation.

3.2. For cancellations received by us 14 days before the start of the course, a processing fee of CHF 200 will be charged. Cancellations must be made in writing, either by email or letter. The date of receipt of the notification by SLA Basel shall be deemed the effective date. Cancellations received less than 14 days before the start of the course will not be accepted and the course fees will be charged in full. In this regard, SLA Basel expressly reserves the right to claim damages (the lost course fees) in accordance with Art. 404 para. 2 of the Swiss Code of Obligations.

3.3. SVEB courses have a fixed duration and cannot be cancelled after the course has started. Course fees must be paid on time and will be charged in full.

3.4. In exceptional cases such as serious illness or accident (upon presentation of a medical certificate) or death of a relative, SLA Basel may issue a credit note. This credit note entitles the participant to attend another SVEB course at SLA Basel. The credit note is valid for one year (12 months) from the date of issue.

4. Absences: holidays, illness and other absences

If a participant is unable to attend a course day, they must notify the secretariat or the teacher as soon as possible. The secretariat can be reached on 061 554 47 21 or at info@sla-basel.ch. Missed lessons cannot be made up or refunded.

5. Course organisation and implementation

SVEB courses have a minimum and maximum number of participants. If there are insufficient participants, the course will be postponed. For organisational reasons, SLA Basel may postpone or combine existing and planned courses. If the teacher is absent for a longer period of time for specific reasons, the school management may replace the teacher.

6. Course confirmation / course certificate

6.1. SVEB courses at SLA Basel require a minimum attendance rate of 80% in all modules. In exceptional cases such as serious illness and accident (upon presentation of a medical certificate) or death of a relative, SLA Basel may be prepared to issue a credit note. With this credit note, the participant can make up for the missed lessons in another SVEB course offered by SLA Basel. The credit note is valid for one year from the date of issue.

6.2. For SVEB courses at SLA Basel, lateness of 45 minutes or more or leaving class early are also considered partial absences. These are noted by the teacher on the attendance list and deducted from the total attendance time. If the partial absences exceed the permitted number of 20% of missed hours, the conditions for passing the course are considered not to have been met.

6.3. If a participant fails the practical demonstration in an SVEB course, they have the option of repeating it once in another SVEB course at SLA Basel. The repeat is subject to a fee and can only be taken once. A repeat of the entire course is possible at any time and is subject to a fee. The cost of repeating the practical demonstration is CHF 200.

6.4. If a participant fails the SVEB course at SLA Basel, they may lodge a written appeal within 30 days, stating their reasons. After reviewing the appeal, the training management team at SLA Basel will make a final decision on:

  • o Appeal upheld (proof of competence nevertheless ‘passed’)
  • o Repetition
  • o Rejection of the objection

An appeal against the decision of the SLA Basel training management can be lodged in writing with the SVEB Quality Assurance Commission within 30 days, stating the reasons for the appeal. The Commission will review the correctness of the procedure.

7. Reservations

7.1. SLA Basel reserves the right to dispose of course places that have not been paid for by the start of the course. For organisational reasons, SLA Basel reserves the right to reschedule, reassign and combine classes.

7.2. We take complaints of any kind very seriously. We always endeavour to find a solution that is satisfactory for both parties. However, in the event of dissatisfaction with the teacher or the lessons, there is no entitlement to compensation, refunds or discounts. Changes to the teacher of a course at the request of individual participants will only be made in particularly serious cases.

8. Data protection

SLA Basel takes the protection of your personal data seriously and complies with the provisions of the Data Protection Act. Under no circumstances will your personal data be sold or passed on to third parties. By agreeing to our terms and conditions, you accept that we may process and store all data provided by you during registration within the scope of our business processes.

9. Insurance and liability

We exclude any liability for damages incurred in connection with all courses, examinations and events organised by us. Customers are therefore responsible for ensuring that they have adequate insurance cover. Any liability for theft or loss of items on the premises of SLA Basel is hereby excluded.

10. Place of jurisdiction

Unless otherwise required by mandatory legal provisions, the exclusive place of jurisdiction shall be Basel-Stadt.
