This certificate is not only confirmation of your professional qualification, but also an important career stepping stone for language teachers who want to stand out in the education market.
Why the SVEB certificate is essential for language teachers
In an increasingly connected world, the need for effective language teachers is growing continuously. Language teachers face the challenge of not only imparting linguistic knowledge, but also fostering intercultural competencies.
The SVEB Certificate prepares teachers to address the specific needs of adult learners, which is particularly important in language education. The course provides teachers with the tools to create learning environments that are both supportive and challenging, motivating learners to actively develop their language skills.
The training course: Structure and content
The course “Instructor – Conducting Learning Events” comprises 255 hours of learning time, of which 90 hours are net contact time. This mix of face-to-face and online hours allows for flexible learning arrangements, which is particularly beneficial for working language teachers.
The subject areas, such as detailed didactic planning, choice of methods, dealing with problems in the classroom and the role of the course instructor, are specifically designed to enable teachers to effectively design and evaluate their lessons.
Practical relevance and individual focus areas
A central element of the course is the opportunity to actively contribute and reflect upon one's own teaching experience. For language teachers, this is particularly valuable as it enables them to learn how to adapt their methods to different learning biographies and cultural backgrounds.
Participants also have the opportunity to discuss specific issues from their everyday teaching and develop solutions together. This practical training promotes the development of teaching strategies that can be applied immediately in their own language classes.
Conditions of participation and certification
To take part in the SVEB course at the Swiss Language Academy, candidates must meet specific requirements aimed at ensuring a high level of expertise and commitment. Participants should have advanced language skills (at least C1 level) and sufficient subject matter expertise in their field.
In addition, two years of teaching experience in adult education is required, with proof of at least 150 hours of teaching experience, of which a maximum of one third may be individual tuition. Alternatively, applicants who have not yet gained this practical experience can demonstrate a willingness to acquire it within two years of the start of the course.
The course places great emphasis on participants bringing their own teaching experience into the course. This not only encourages a deeper reflection and application of the acquired knowledge, but also strengthens the practical implementation of teaching skills.
Finally, participants receive a module confirmation for SVEB modules if they cannot yet fully demonstrate the required practical experience at the time the course ends. Full certification takes place upon reaching the necessary teaching experience, which must be accumulated within two years, whereby the SVEB Certificate „Instructor – Conducting Learning Events“ is officially awarded by the provider organisation.
This systematic approach ensures that all certified course instructors are not only theoretically qualified, but also practically experienced educators.
