Where is the telc exam held?
Examination venue:
SLA Basel (official telc examination centre)
Münchensteinerstrasse 2, 4052 Basel
Arrival:
From Basel SBB station you can reach the location in just a few minutes by taking the tram to the „Basel, Münchensteinerstrasse“ stop (e.g. line 10 or 11). Alternatively, the walk takes around 10–15 minutes.
Parking:
Parking spaces in the blue zone are subject to limited availability. A practical alternative is the Bahnhof Süd multi-storey car park at Güterstrasse 115 (access via Meret-Oppenheim-Strasse).

This is how the telc B2 exam is structured
The telc German B2 consists of a written and an oral section. In terms of content, the aim is to be able to handle even more challenging situations in everyday life, education and work with linguistic confidence: understanding more complex information, weighing up arguments, responding precisely, and expressing yourself clearly and in a structured manner.
Written section: Reading, language building blocks, listening, writing
Read
You will be working with longer and more complex texts (e.g. newspaper articles, factual texts, personal accounts, formal communications). Typical tasks include: identifying key points, locating specific details, evaluating statements, and making appropriate connections and drawing conclusions.
Language modules
You work on gap-fill texts and select suitable words and structures. The focus is more heavily on precise vocabulary, typical expressions and grammatically correct formulations in context.
Listen
You will listen to conversations, interviews or short talks on topics relating to everyday life and work. You will identify both key information and details, and assess statements (e.g. true/false or selecting the correct answers).
Letter
You write a structured text (usually a formal or semi-formal email/letter or a statement). In doing so, you address given points, formulate your concerns clearly, justify your statements, and pay attention to an appropriate style.
Oral part: Speaking
You are having a conversation (often as a partner exam). In terms of content, this includes: briefly introducing yourself and getting into the topic, talking about a given topic, exchanging arguments, responding to your conversation partner and working out a solution or decision together (making proposals, weighing up, justifying, agreeing/disagreeing, summarising).
Important:
In the telc B2 German oral exam, you do not need to speak without making any mistakes. What matters is that you confidently complete the tasks at B2 level, express yourself in a nuanced and largely fluent manner, and structure your thoughts clearly. Even if you occasionally struggle to find the right word, hesitate briefly or have a noticeable accent.
Procedure on the day of the exam (telc B2)

Registration for the telc B2 German exam
Here’s how to register:

Required documents
- Valid identification (ID card, driving licence or passport)
You cannot take part without valid identification.
Places & recommendation for early registration
Many participants secure their place early. If your schedule is tied to a specific month, we recommend registering in good time.
Closing date for registration
The registration deadline is 16 days before the exam date. To ensure everything goes smoothly, you shouldn't leave the registration until the last day.
Exam fee and payment (telc B2)
- telc B2 exam fee: CHF 280.–
(in writing only: CHF 200.– / orally only: CHF 180.–)
After your registration, you will receive an invoice.
The fee must be paid by the due date.
Prompt payment is a prerequisite for participation; the date on the invoice is binding.
Cancellation / Transfer / Refund
Registration is binding and generally non-cancellable.
If you need to withdraw, your written withdrawal must be received by the Swiss Language Academy no later than 16 days before the examination date. The date of receipt is decisive.
Important:
Non-payment, a failure to receive an invoice, or non-attendance on the day of the exam do not constitute cancellation.
Cancellation after deadline / Non-attendance (telc B2)
If you withdraw after the withdrawal deadline or fail to attend on the day of the examination, 100 % of the examination fee will be payable. A refund is only possible in the event of serious illness and requires a doctor’s certificate. In this case, an additional processing fee of CHF 80.– will be charged.
Anyone who does not attend without a valid cancellation will not receive a refund.
Rescheduling and registration after the cancellation deadline
A rebooking is only possible up to the cancellation deadline. You can find the binding deadlines for the telc B2 exam on our website. The Swiss Language Academy may postpone an exam date if too few participants have registered. Registrations after the cancellation deadline can no longer be cancelled.
No aids allowed in the telc B2 exam
Throughout the entire telc B2 German examination (written and oral), auxiliary aids are not permitted. These include, amongst others, ballpoint pens, dictionaries, and electronic devices (smartphones, smartwatches, etc.).
Permitted exclusively:
- Writing materials (e.g. a soft pencil)
- pencil sharpener
- rubber
- a drink
All other items will be kept securely for the duration of the exam.
Result & Certificate
Your exam will be marked after the appointment. Depending on the exam date and workload, you will usually receive your result within 4 to 6 weeks.
